Dr. Tchouvelev participated in the development of Stuart Energy’s next generation electrolysis cell stacks. Dr. Tchouvelev is actively involved in development of hydrogen safety codes and standards to enable the emerging hydrogen economy. Dr. Tchouvelev is the Chair of the Canadian Advisory Committee of ISO/TC 197 “Hydrogen Technologies”, a member of the Canadian Sub-Committee of IEC/TC 105 “Fuel Cells”, US DOE Hydrogen Codes & Standards Coordination Committee, the ISO/TC 197 WG 8, 11 and 12, and the TC on Canadian Hydrogen Installation Code.
Dr. Tchouvelev is the Project Leader for the Canadian Transportation Fuel Cell Alliance (CTFCA) Hydrogen Clearance Distances Project aimed to develop scientifically-based guidelines for clearance distances and hazardous locations based on numerical (CFD) and physical modeling that can be used as input into the Canadian Hydrogen Installation Code and for updates to the Canadian Electrical Code.
Dr. Tchouvelev is a leader of the Canadian Hydrogen Safety Program and a Canadian expert representative to the IEA Annex on Hydrogen Safety, where he leads the Subtask on Risk Management. Dr. Tchouvelev also served as a Co-Chair of the Implementation Topic Team for the California Hydrogen Highway Program. Dr. Tchouvelev also serves on the Advisory Council to the EU Network of Excellence on Hydrogen Safety HySafe.
Dr. Tchouvelev has been involved in hydrogen energy and technology since 1983 and joined the International Association for Hydrogen Energy (IAHE) in 1985. He served as Executive Secretary of the 7th World Hydrogen Energy Conference in Moscow, Russia, in 1988. He is a member of Advisory Board to IAHE.
From 1989 – 1990 Dr. Tchouvelev was a visiting scientist in the United States doing joint studies at the University of Miami, University of Hawaii at Manoa, University of California Riverside and South Coast Air Quality Management District.
From 1991 – 1993 Dr. Tchouvelev operated a Canadian-Russian joint venture hydrogen infrastructure company.
Dr. Tchouvelev is an inorganic chemist by education. He performed research in the area of complex compounds of nitrates of heavy lanthanides.
Dr. Tchouvelev has served as the President & CEO of A.V.Tchouvelev & Associates since March 2005. Prior to that, Dr. Tchouvelev served as the Vice President, Codes & Standards of Stuart Energy from July 2002 to March 2005. Prior to that, he served as Executive Vice President, Quality, Safety and International Compliance and Executive Vice President, Operations of Stuart Energy.
