Kevin Kendall

Prof Kevin Kendall has been with the department since 2000. Previously, he has worked at the University of Keele and Akron University, and has worked in research at Joseph Lucas, British Railways and ICI.

Research Interests:

  • Website for the Fuel Cell Network
  • molecular adhesion and fracture
  • processing of ceramic particles
  • aggregation in colloidal systems
  • ceramic fuel cells
  • cementitious materials
  • Agglomeration of Particles:
    • Slight adhesion between particles can cause them to stick together in suspensions to form aggregates. This process depends on the molecular surface attractions between particles, and also on the thermal movements of particles and their volumes, shapes and sizes. A new theory of this phenomenon has been proposed and verified with blood cells and other suspended spheres such as polymer latex and silica particles.

  • Collaboration with Adelan Ltd on fuel cells
  • EPSRC project on modelling contact between nano particles
  • ACORN project on nanoparticles with Dr Michael Rotov
  • NATEC project on fuel cell systems for aircraft with Dr Stuart Jones
  • Project with Shell on fuel reforming
