IAHE Awards Policy

1. General Principles

The IAHE Awards recognize individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to hydrogen science, engineering, technology, commercialization, policy, education, and service to the hydrogen community. The IAHE Awards Committee shall ensure that the nomination, evaluation, and selection processes are transparent, impartial, confidential, and internationally representative.

2. Nominations

The call for nominations shall be announced through the IAHE website, newsletters, WHEC/WHTC announcements, and social media.

Nominations may be submitted by:

  • IAHE members,
  • members of the international hydrogen community,
  • universities and research institutions,
  • companies.

Self-nominations are not permitted.

A nomination package should include:

  • nomination letter
  • CV
  • list of  publications/patents

Nominations open on October 1 of the year preceding each WHEC or WHTC meeting (e.g., for WHEC 2028, nominations open on October 1, 2027). The nomination period closes three months prior to the corresponding WHEC or WHTC meeting. Note: The nomination period may be adjusted by the Awards Committee at its discretion when circumstances warrant.

3. Evaluation

Each nomination shall be evaluated based on the following specific criteria:

  • Scientific/technological excellence
  • Impact on hydrogen field
  • Originality and innovation
  • International recognition and contribution
  • Leadership/service

Conflict of interest. Members of the Awards Committee shall disclose any actual or perceived conflict of interest and shall not participate in the evaluation and voting process.

4. Selection

Selection shall be made by consensus or by the majority vote of the IAHE Award Committee members. The Committee may recommend:

  • one recipient
  • multiple recipients
  • no award if no nomination satisfies the required standard

5. Approval

Following the technical and merit-based evaluation of the nominees, the Awards Committee submits its recommendations to the IAHE Board for formal approval.

6. Notification

Award recipients shall normally be notified two to three months prior to the corresponding WHEC or WHTC.

7. Award Presentation

Awards are presented during the WHEC or WHTC Awards ceremony.
