World Hydrogen Energy Conference (WHEC). Established in 1976 under the leadership of T. Nejat Veziroğlu, WHEC was created in response to growing recognition of hydrogen as a promising long-term energy carrier for addressing energy security, environmental protection, and the finite nature of fossil fuel resources. Since its inception, WHEC has served as the flagship scientific conference of the global hydrogen community, bringing together researchers, engineers, industry leaders, and policymakers to present advances across the entire hydrogen value chain—from fundamental science and materials research to production, storage, distribution, utilization, economics, and policy. Over the past five decades, WHEC has played a central role in advancing hydrogen science and fostering international collaboration.

World Hydrogen Technologies Convention (WHTC). As hydrogen technologies progressed toward engineering implementation and commercial deployment, the need arose for a complementary conference focused on technology, industrial applications, and practical experience. The first WHTC was held in Singapore in 2005. While WHEC emphasizes scientific research, WHTC highlights engineering innovation, commercialization, and large-scale deployment. Together, the two events provide a comprehensive platform spanning the full innovation pathway—from fundamental research to commercial implementation—supporting the global advancement of hydrogen technologies.
